This is not the official CMS Web Pricer. The official tool is free and lives at webpricer.cms.gov. CMS Web Pricer Alternative: What It Covers and What It Doesn't

July 20, 2026 · PayerParity · Medicare Reimbursement

The CMS Web Pricer is the official, free way to estimate Medicare prospective payment amounts — and for several payment systems it is the only sensible choice. But it has two real limits: it prices nothing on the outpatient side, and it cannot be automated. Here is an honest side-by-side, including the cases where you should close this page and use the official tool.

What the official CMS Web Pricer is

webpricer.cms.gov is CMS's browser-based successor to the old desktop PC Pricer. It estimates payments under eight prospective payment systems, covering calendar and fiscal years from 2020 onward, and includes a provider directory and per-system help. Entries are stored locally in your browser. It is free, authoritative, and maintained by the agency that sets the rates.

CMS is explicit that it is an estimator: figures may differ from the amount the claims processing system finally determines, because some inputs come from provider cost reports and provider data can lag.

When to use the official CMS Web Pricer

Plainly: most of the time, if you need a system we don't cover yet. If you are pricing a skilled nursing, rehab, psych, long-term care, home health, hospice or ESRD claim, the official tool does it and this one does not. If you need a prior year — an appeal, an audit, a retro-repricing exercise — it goes back to 2020 and this tool is FY2026 only.

It is the authoritative source, it is free, and it is maintained by CMS itself. There is no version of this comparison where we suggest otherwise for those cases.

Frequently asked questions

What is the CMS Web Pricer?
The official, free CMS tool at webpricer.cms.gov for estimating Medicare Prospective Payment System payments. It is the browser-based continuation of the older PC Pricer and covers calendar and fiscal years from 2020 onward.

Which payment systems does the CMS Web Pricer cover?
Eight: Inpatient (IPPS), Skilled Nursing (SNF), Inpatient Rehabilitation (IRF), Inpatient Psychiatric (IPF), Long-Term Care Hospital (LTCH), Home Health, Hospice, and End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). It does not price hospital outpatient (OPPS/APC) or ambulatory surgical center (ASC) claims.

Does the CMS Web Pricer have an API?
No. It is a manual, browser-based tool — one claim at a time, results stored locally in your browser. There is no public API and no batch upload, which is why teams pricing claims in volume generally need something else.

Is this tool affiliated with CMS?
No. It is an independent commercial tool built by PayerParity, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

When should I use the official CMS Web Pricer instead?
When you need a payment system this tool does not yet cover, or a prior year back to 2020. For those cases the official tool is authoritative, free, and the right answer.
